A Message from Our President, Steve Smelley (Houston, 1980)
Greetings Houston Sigma Chi Alumni Brothers,
Happy November. The Chapter and I hope you are safe and doing your best to stay well during this COVID-19 Pandemic. With the State of Texas opening for business, the Houston Alumni Chapter had our first luncheon meeting at Jax Grill, October 6th. We had seven Brothers in attendance. We had a Happy Hour on October 22nd at The Drift Bar in the Heights with a total of ten Brothers in attendance. The Bird Blast on October 24th was exactly as it sounds, a blast! 21 Brothers attended the event and produced close to 200 Birds for the Wild Game Dinner Freezer. The Wild Game Dinner menu will include Quail, Chukar, and Pheasant from the Bird Blast. A special thank you to our Grand Trustee, Kelly Park, for putting the hunt together at Top Flight Hunting in Columbus, Texas. Another special thanks to Travis Martin and the 1855 Cookers for the fajita lunch they cooked for us during the event.
The Board of Directors and the Wild Game Dinner Committee have been working diligently to prepare and plan for the 75th Wild Game Dinner, which has now been moved to Saturday, February 13th, still at Hotel Derek. We are looking into having a possible Happy Hour/Christmas gathering in December on a Saturday evening so Brothers could bring their significant others and have a little bit of Christmas cheer together. Time and place will be communicated once plans are finalized.
This has been a challenging year with the coronavirus. Hopefully, 2021 will be back to a somewhat sense of normalcy. Until the next issue of the Exchange, stay safe and healthy.
In Hoc Signo Vinces,
J. Steven Smelley, President 2020-2021
